2010 Festival highlighted on Kayaksurf.net

There is new energy in the oceans of our planet; the Worlds Surf Kayaking Championships in Portugal was a success even though it occurred in a somewhat inopportune time for many summer employed athletes caught in an economic downturn, the East Coast will feature the next worlds so the US will be out in force, and the new WCSKC, http://surf.kayaking.com/ , is rolling with a whole new series of events to bring more athletes into the fold.

Fellow Paddle Surfers

The 23rd Annual Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival was simply grand. Sitting there at Steamers with the sun shinning on my face looking at Steamer-smooth and glassy with an off shore blowing rooster tails off the overhead waves was simply a wonderful thing to be a part of. I mean the view was breathtaking with waves that you could almost see through, deep blue skis studded with pure white puffy clouds and whales perusing the outside break-it was stunning! I want to officially thank all who had a part in this gathering-for it is a gathering of people who come to share in this magnificent appreciation of this energy space. The addition of the Stand-up (SUP) group was not only another tribute to this paradigm but demonstrated what a beautiful dance with waves this sport represents.

Stand-up surfing does not need PFDs

We have in this years event a new category of Stand-up surfing. It has been voiced that a PFD is not necessary for this vehicle as righting is not an issue and the ability to duck dive is. So we will delete PFDs for this class of paddle powered vehicle. Helmets are required for all paddle surf vehicles as head trauma from paddle, rocks and your own vehicle is ever-present.

Surf vehicle safety standards

The 23rd Annual Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival is about to unroll another stellar event. In keeping with last years good graces everyone should envision smooth and glassy 10 to 15 footers with glistening sun for the weekend.

The 23rd Annual Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival

Welcome to the 23rd Annual Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival (SCKSF). It is the largest contest in the surf kayaking world and attracts the best athletes and high end vehicle designs this planet can produce. It has become such because the wave at the venue, Steamer Lane, is a world renown break especially suited to the speed and aerobatics of the new surf kayak. Last years event was a classic example of excellence. For three days we were blessed with 10 to 15 foot glassy swell energy, with sunny blue skis.
