The south corners of Monterey Bay and its open coast companion, Big Sur, are noted for crystal clear waters, abundance of marine life, and unparalleled diversity of bottom topography. The geophysical attribute that makes this so is the deep Carmel submarine canyon that comes within a hundred yards of shore. The results are sheer rocky shores and steep underwater drop-offs studded with craggy subsea mountains, leaving little area for sand and debris to collect—and consequently, immaculate water clarity. But the very characteristics that make this area so beautiful also make it relatively inaccessible to the unprepared SCUBA explorer. The nature of the Advanced Open Water program is to give you the SCUBA tools necessary to safely and enjoyably explore this area of submarine excellence, as well as a broader base of supervised experience into a variety of diving adventures.

The Advanced Open Water Diver program has something for everyone. This exciting program includes a total of five adventure dives. After successfully completing the course, you'll receive the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This allows you to participate in more advanced diving activities with a maximum recommended depth limit of 30 meters/100 feet, in addition to the qualifications listed for PADI Open Water Divers.
